Oral Conscious Sedation
A prescription sedative pill taken approximately one hour before your appointment. By the time you sit in the chair, you'll be deeply relaxed. You remain conscious and can respond to questions, but most patients remember little of the procedure. Local anesthesia is still used for complete comfort.

Your vital signs — heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation — are continuously monitored throughout every sedated procedure.
Who is a good candidate for dental sedation?
Dental sedation is appropriate for patients who experience significant dental anxiety or phobia, have a strong gag reflex, require multiple or complex procedures in a single visit, have very sensitive teeth or gums, have had traumatic dental experiences in the past, or have difficulty sitting still for extended periods. Can I drive myself home after dental sedation?
It depends on the type of sedation. With nitrous oxide only, the gas wears off within minutes of removing the mask, and most patients can drive themselves home. With oral conscious sedation or IV sedation, you will not be permitted to drive for the remainder of the day. A responsible adult must accompany you to the appointment and drive you home. Plan to rest at home for the remainder of the day.
